On January 1, 2019, Dr. Stefan Müller-Pfeiffer took over as head of the research and development department of the Thuringian technology company POG Präzisionsoptik Gera. He leads the team of optical designers, engineers, and technologists working on the development of customer-specific optics, e.g. for metrology, semiconductor industry and aerospace applications.
The physicist with a PhD takes over the position from Aleksander Wlodarski, who co-founded the company and has headed the research division since 1991. Wlodarski will assist his successor until the end of 2019 before retiring from operational obligations.
The addition of Müller-Pfeiffer is intended not only to strengthen the company’s competencies in the areas of system design and technology development, but also to further advance its strategic development into an independent, full-range supplier of sophisticated optics. At the company’s new location in Löbichau, about 10 km east of Gera, perfect conditions have been created including expanded production capacity, new manufacturing technology and a modern infrastructure.
Dr. Stefan Müller-Pfeiffer, born in 1962, has many years of experience in both research and industry. After working in various university and non-university research institutions such as Darmstadt, Jülich and Jena, he joined ZEISS in Jena in 1996, where he worked in the innovation center and in the microelectronics department. From 2002, he took on project manager and leadership roles at JENOPTIK Optical Systems, where he was most recently a senior expert responsible for developments for applications in high-performance microscopy and semiconductor technology.
