STEM education in schools is an important concern for us. As a photonics company, it is particularly important to us that young pupils learn the basics of science. In many schools, teaching can only take place to a limited extent, which is why we want to get involved as a company.
By getting involved in school-related projects, such as TiP (Tag in der Praxis) and LiP (Lernen in der Praxis), young people should be taught part of the lessons directly in practice.
In addition to the sometimes state-organized projects, we also welcome schools to join us for a day of live physics lessons.
This was also the case last week: One Gera secondary school visited us for three days in a row with its 8th grade students to learn more about the physical laws of light.
In addition to numerous experimental stations, the pupils were also able to try their hand at making optics. This involved applying protective chamfers and etching their own microstructure.
The days were organized and supervised by our own trainees, who did a really great job and were able to pass on the experience they had gained.
We are delighted when projects like this come about and we can make a contribution to STEM education.
